Asphalt Mix Design & Evaluation Equipment |
| |
| By evaluating resistance to deformation, shearing and creep, it is possible to determine how an asphalt matrix will
perform under various loading and climatic conditions. Such information is vital to determine the potential life of an
asphalt pavement. By employing latest testing methods it is possible to replicate long term traffic conditions. These
methods follow the “End Product Specification” philosophy promoted by SHRP. Alternative and recycled materials can
also be tested for suitability in the design stage. This philosophy has advantage for both client and contractor, as it
ensures that pavement design life is achieved and that the most economical mix is supplied to meet the design criteria. |

BINDER CONTENT
The quality of hot-mix asphalt pavement is typically characterized by two very
important factors. The asphalt binder content and gradation of aggregates. The
New Technology Oven utilizes advanced infrared (IR) technology to measure asphalt
content using NCAT ignition method. Proprietary process design of this unit does
not require a temperature correction factor to account for higher temperatures
and airflow around the weighing device. This unit has a series of burn profiles
which allow the operator to fine tune each burn based on aggregate types or mixtures.

SPECIFIC GRAVITY, PERMEABILITY AND
ABSORPTION
Corelok is used for determination of Asphalt Bulk & Maximum Specific
Gravity, Apparent Specific Gravity and Percentage Absorption of fine &
coarse aggregates, Asphalt Permeability/ Porosity and Percent Asphalt
Content determination. This is a non nuclear equipment, with no
restrictions on sample type, composition and geometry. This unit does not
require any calibration. |

DYNAMIC MODULUS, FLOW TIME/NUMBER &
STATIC CREEP
The Simple Performance Tester (SPT) is an integrated, servo-hydraulic testing machine
specifically designed to perform, and has been approved, for three candidate asphalt tests
namely, Dynamic modulus- used for structural design; Flow Time (Static Creep)- simple
test and Flow Number (Repeated Load) potentially the best simulation of actual loading.
Thus this system provides simple mechanical “proof” test analogus to Marshall stability and Flow tests and Hveem stabilometer method, so as not to rely solely on performance
grade (PG) binder specifications and volumetric design method. |

FLEXURE STIFFNESS
The Beam Fatigue Apparatus (BFA) is a stand alone system for fatigue life testing
of asphalt beams subjected to repeated flexural bending. This system has a digital
servocontrolled pneumatic actuator which provides accurate control of loading
waveshapes. Innovative “floating straight edge” on specimen transducer eliminates
errors, including frame compliance. Servo hydraulic Four Point Bending Apparatus
is also available which is a compact all-in-one testing machine for testing asphalt
beams. This Apparatus comprises of an electrically powered hydraulicloading system,
a beam cradle, an environmental chamber, IMACS Integrated Multi-Axis Control
System and Windows application software.

ASPHALT MIX COMPACTION CHARACTERISTICS
AND SHEAR STRENGTH
Servopac Gyratory Compactor is a fully automated, servo controlled Gyratory Compactor
through which compaction is achieved by the simultaneous action of static compression
and shearing action resulting from the mould being gyrated through an angle about its
longitudinal axis. The gyratory motion is also servo-controlled enabling the gyratory angle
to be accurately controlled during the compaction, irrespective of load. The servocontrolled
operation allows vertical stress, gyratory angle and speed to be quickly
modified. |

RESISTANCE TO RUTTING & CREEP
Universal servo-pneumatically controlled testing machines with capacities of
5kN,10kN & 14kN utilize digital control of a pneumatic servo valve to provide
accurate loading waveshapes. These machines can be operated in tension,
compression and dynamic loading and are suited to testing of diverse range of
materials such as asphalt, soil, unbound granular material, fibers and plastics.
25kN and 100kN hydraulically operated servo controlled UTM is also available
for testing of asphalt and unbound granular materials. |
